Baptism & Confirmation

Holy Baptism

At Emmanuel, All Means All. So whoever you are, or wherever you are in your journey of life, Emmanuel would like to be your spiritual home. Membership at Emmanuel starts with baptism. Baptism is the sacrament in which we receive grace and are claimed as children of God, who promises to be with us always. This bond with God is indissoluble, so you can only be baptized once.

Baptism is open to all people, regardless of age or background. If you have not been baptized, or if you want to have your child baptized, your first step is to schedule a conversation with one of our clergy.  You may submit a baptism request form and one of our clergy will contact you, or you may call the Parish Office at 706-543-1294.

If you have already been baptized, you can become a member of Emmanuel by transferring from another church, or by simply requesting to be registered as a member, by contacting the Parish Office. We accept baptisms from any Christian community.

He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done,  but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

--- Titus 3:5

Confirmation

Confirmation is the expression of a deepening commitment to Christ. In the confirmation rite, we receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by the bishop. Adults and youth who have been baptized, but who have not been confirmed, may be confirmed. Those who have been confirmed or made a mature profession of faith in another Christian church and who wish to make a commitment to the Episcopal church, are “received” by the bishop at a confirmation service.

Confirmation services are generally held at Emmanuel once per year, but are held several times during the year at the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta. Confirmation often includes a season of study and reflection prior to the service. Emmanuel endeavors to conduct confirmation classes annually. Speak with one of our clergy about the current schedule.

Confirmation is not necessary for membership at Emmanuel, but all who are confirmed here are automatically registered as members.

Please contact one of our clergy if you wish to be confirmed or received.
