Funerals

Jesus said "I am the resurrection and the life.

Whoever believes in Me will live,

even though he dies. And everyone who lives

and believes in Me will never die."

                                              --- John 11:25

 Comfort and Prayers

When a death occurs or is imminent among Emmanuel's membership, please contact the parish clergy right away.   A priest will want to join family and friends to offer comfort, guidance and prayers, and to consult on plans for the service and burial.  Our priests are available 24 hours a day.  Do not hesitate to call at any hour in such a situation.

Funerals at Emmanuel

Emmanuel is available for funerals for members and nonmembers.  If you have an immediate need for funeral planning, please contact the Parish Office at 706-543-1294.  Our clergy and staff will work with the family and the funeral home to schedule the service and to accommodate music, floral and other requests.  Our clergy will review with you the Episcopal funeral liturgy, including selections for the Gospel, readings and hymns.  Services may be held in our sanctuary or chapel, and the parish hall is available for receptions.  We do not charge a fee for the use of the church, asking only that you pay for the organist and any other musicians you may select.  We may also ask for a fee to defray the costs of a reception, if it is large or you desire more than coffee/tea and snacks.

Death Notices

If you would like a loved one's death noticed in our newsletter or bulletin, even if they weren't a member of Emmanuel, contact our Director of Administration at 706-543-1294 or akurtz@emmanuelathens.org.

Advance Planning

We encourage our members to make funeral service plans in advance.  It can be a great comfort for family to know your preferences.  Our Funeral Planning Form and  Suggested Funeral Readings, which can be accessed below, are designed to help you.  And please contact one of our clergy if you would like to schedule a time to discuss your plans.

Columbarium

Our Columbarium offers our members and former members and their immediate families a final homecoming in  a serene and peaceful setting.   Located in the inner courtyard, it is a graceful semicircle of granite and stone with a small fountain, creating a place for quiet reflection.

We have a total of 466 niches, many still available, and each can accommodate one or two urns.  Inurnments are identified with names engraved on the granite faceplates.  The cost is $2,000 for one urn and $2,500 for two, and an installment payment plan is available.    Please see the brochure below or contact the Parish Office for more information.

Memorials

There are several ways you might consider for honoring your loved ones who have passed.

Also, we have engravable sidewalk pavers and memorial stones available as permanent memorials.  Click here for more information.

Sidewalk Pavers

Sidewalk pavers are located at the main entrance to the office building.  Each granite paver is 24 x 12 inches.  The fully tax-deductible donation is $500 per paver.

Terrace Stones

Terrace stones form a permanent border around the All Saints Terrace on the Pope Street side of the church.  Each stone is 33 x 12 inches and is engraved with one surname.  The fully tax-deductible donation is $1,000 per stone.
