Lenten Speaker Series

Join us for a thought-provoking Sunday morning speaker series inspired by Barbara Brown Taylor’s Holy Envy. Each week, a diverse and engaging group speaker will explore themes that challenge and deepen our faith, inviting us to see the divine in new and unexpected ways. Topics will include deconstructing faith, the language we use for God, the cosmic Christ, and spiritual practices that nourish the soul. Come with curiosity and an open heart as we journey together in conversation and discovery.

Bible Study | LL Westminster Classroom

Led by Dr. Edward Bolen

A Sunday morning Bible study with engaging teaching and classroom discussion.

Sunday Afternoon

Natural Spirituality | Library | Noon

Emmanuel’s Natural Spirituality program began in 1991 and provides a context for exploring inner work by working with dreams and synchronicity. While this is relatively new for our time, it is not new for Christianity. People of the Old and New Testaments were led and enriched by their dreams, as we are today. The program is based on Jungian concepts of the unconscious in a Christian framework and explores the images and metaphors that come to us in our dreams. Journey Group members help each other gain insight into their individual lives by unfolding the symbolic language of their dreams. A light lunch will be served. The group is open and all those interested are welcome to attend either in person or via Zoom. For more information, please contact Heidi Simmonds at heidihsimmonds@gmail.com.

Monday

Bible Study | LL Coventry Room | 10:00a.m.

The weekly lectionary Bible study exegetes the scripture passages for the upcoming Sunday service. We share responsibility for facilitating the group. The group is lively and engaged in hearing how scripture is informing our lives in our context. All are welcome. Drop in whenever you have time. The readings for each week can be found here:  https://www.lectionarypage.net/

Wednesday

Centering Prayer | Chapel | 10a.m.

Centering Prayer is a method designed to facilitate the development of contemplative prayer by preparing our faculties to receive this gift. It presents ancient Christian wisdom teachings in an updated form. Centering Prayer is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer; rather it casts a new light and depth of meaning on them. It is at the same time a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Our Centering Prayer group meets in the Chapel from 10:00a.m. - 11:30a.m.

Lenten Groups | Common Room | 6p.m.

This Lent, join us on Wednesday nights for a rich and engaging discussion series based on Barbara Brown Taylor’s Holy Envy. Together, we will explore how encounters with other faith traditions can deepen our own Christian journey. Each session will focus on key themes from the book, such as discovering wisdom in other religions, rethinking familiar beliefs, and broadening our understanding of God’s presence in the world. Come for meaningful conversation, fresh perspectives, and a chance to grow in faith through holy curiosity.

Sacred Ground | Vestry Room | 5:45p.m.

Emmanuel is pleased to announce we will once again offer Sacred Ground as part of our Adult Formation fall programming. Developed by the Episcopal Church, Sacred Ground is a thoughtful and faith-based program to assist local congregations in facilitating respectful and transformative dialogue on racial issues. This 11-session series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories. Participants meet weekly to reflect on family histories and stories, along with important narratives that shape the collective American story. Framed as a spiritual journey, this series is grounded in the Christian faith – in the example of Jesus Christ and the power of scripture, prayer, God’s grace, and the Holy Spirit to help us step closer to the dream of beloved community.

If you would like to learn more about the program, follow this link: Sacred Ground and listen to Bishop Curry’s invitation to Sacred Ground.
