First Meeting of 2008 Vestry

7:00 p.m. in Parlor

Present:        Gillian Ball, John Ballard, John Becker, Anne Brightwell, Katherine Byrne, Phil Cofer, Bill Connerat, Erwin Greene, Matthew Hicks, Vince Howard, Robin Krause, Nancy McDuff, Naomi Norman, Lisa Yarn, Fr. Robert Salamone

Absent:         Betsy Turner

Naomi opened the meeting with a devotion.

Election of Junior Warden

Fr. Robert read a sample job description of the Junior Warden from The Vestry Resource Guide, Vol. 1 (p. A7). It included Qualifications and Gifts, Time Commitment, Responsibilities, and Accountability. He then asked each Vestry member to add additional qualities we thought were necessary for the job. Some of those qualities were willingness to complete tasks, availability, & ability to step into leader role when needed.

Some Vestry members asked not to be considered. A straw vote was taken and subsequently Katherine Byrne was elected by acclamation.

Outreach Funds

Because of the reorganization of our outreach program took longer than expected, the Vestry allocated some of our outreach and endowment funds before the end of the fiscal year:

Motion: John Ballard moved to approve grants of $5000 to YMCA and $1000 to Chase Street PTO. Seconded. Vote: Passed

Motion: Phil moved to donate $10,000 to the Salvation Army.

Seconded. Vote: Passed

Motion: Naomi moved to donate the remainder of 2007 Outreach budget to Nurses’ Clinic. [$4438.20 was actual amount.]

Seconded. Vote: Passed

Vince Howard moved to donate $5000 to the Food Bank. Seconded. Vote: Passed

MEMC

A discussion followed regarding the Mission & Extended Ministry Committee (MEMC) -- its function, priorities, and relation to the Vestry.

 Good of the Order

Bill Connerat - Wanted everyone to know that the candle in the tabernacle needs to stay lit.

Naomi welcomed the 2008 Vestry.

Vince said that the IHN ministry at Emmanuel will have a full house and help is needed this Sunday moving the families in.
