Emmanuel Episcopal ChurchMinutes of Vestry Work RetreatThe ParlorSunday, June 3, 2007 - 1:00 PMPresent: John Ballard (his 30th birthday), John Becker, Katherine Byrne, Phillip Cofer, Erwin Greene, Wren Howard, Robin Krause, Penny McLanahan, Naomi Norman, Tom Odom, Betsy Turner, Fr. Robert Salamone, and....yeah, Gillian Ball Absent: Robin Bewley (on mission trip with EEC youth), Bill Connerat (family mission trip), Amrey Harden (out of town) The retreat was opened with a prayer. Tom, Junior Warden, led the retreat and gave a review of our prior organizational work regarding the commissions and ministries of the church. Each commission, committee, and ministry in our church must ask itself two questions: 1) How does that area tie into our parish mission and vision? (Mission, Vision, and Goals) 2) What does that committee or group of people do? Providing answers to each of these questions will help us in the revision of the vestry bylaws. Each commission chair presented his/her commission’s written mission statement and goals and objectives, and answers to the above questions. These were then taped to the wall to form our possibly final(?) “organization map” of the ministries of EEC. Tom Odom asks everyone to send their statements, etc., to him electronically and he would assemble these into a working form before being presented to the congregation in late summer or early fall. ACTION ITEMS were taken care of as they came to our attention during the afternoon: 1. Gillian had asked for an increase in the stewardship budget for her working committee. MOTION: Robin K called to increase in the 2007 Stewardship budget line from $2500 to $3500. Seconded. Motion carried. ACTION: Fr. Robert will take care of this with Karen Holland. 2. To continue work toward getting a sign in front of the church, an ad hoc Front Sign Committee needs to be formed. MOTION: To form an ad hoc Front Sign Committee with representatives from Facilities, AGM, and Welcome, and John Becker, chair. Seconded. Motion carried. ACTION: John Becker, chair, will call first meeting as soon as members are picked. Members will include 2 persons from Welcome (Robin K will ask Duncan to take care of this), 2 persons from Facilities and AGM, plus Carol Winthrop and Alan Stovall, who have expressed an interest in the front sign. 3. To communicate our new Organization Chart “Instrument” to the parish in late summer/early fall, an ad hoc committee needs to be formed. ACTION: Tom appointed Robin K to form the ad hoc committee to be composed of vestry members and members-at-large in our parish to communicate this “instrument” to the rest of our parishioners. He should have what we need to present ready by August. Robin Krause, Chair Communications Commission June 5, 2007
