Emmanuel Episcopal ChurchMinutes of Regular Vestry Meeting 540 Prince Building Present: John Becker, Amrey Harden, Bill Connerat, Robin Bewley, Gillian Ball, Father Robert Salamone, Tom Odom, Betsy Turner, Naomi Norman, Wren Howard, Penny McClanahan, Katherine Byrne, John Ballard, Erwin Greene, Robin Krause, Phillip Cofer Absent: n/a [Minutes from the last regular vestry meeting, The meeting was called to order by Father Robert at John Ballard led the devotional by reading from the Good News Version of Acts 2:22-28. There were no comments or questions on the Commission Reports which were filed online. Information Items: Cottage Committee Update Tom had difficulty contacting Tom Camp of the Naomi read an email from Athens Land Trust (ALT) that mentioned the possibility of using tax credits to refurbish the cottages for use by non-profit organizations. The vestry asked Naomi to continue conversations with ALT about this since it might be an option for another non-profit organization. There was a question about the land and whether ALT wanted the land, or just the cottage(s). Robert believes that if ALT acquired both the land and cottages, it would fit into the vestry’s idea of “relinquishment”. Gillian noted that if the current conversations with ALT and Samaritan did not work out, the vestry might want to contact CASA which sent an application to the Williams Rhodes Screening Committee. Welcome Committee/Front Sign Erwin reported that the Welcome Committee wants an Emmanuel Church sign in front of the church and will do the leg work in finding out statues and details. The vestry agreed that AGM needs to be brought in on this. Wednesday Night Supper Katherine passed a sign-up sheet for the Vestry Wednesday Night Supper, May 16. Outreach The chairs, Phillip and John, suggested that the Outreach Summit be put on the front burner. Robert said that it is the Vestry’s purview to define parish outreach expenditures and approve all expenditures. After discussion of where to go with the parish outreach mission, a committee was appointed to hammer out a process. Committee members are Amrey, Naomi, John Ballard, Robin Krause, John Becker, Phillip Cofer, representatives of the Thrift House, Men of Emmanuel, and any other organizations who have funds. MOTION: Phillip moved to designate an ad hoc committee to begin the Outreach ACTION: Naomi (chair), Robin K, Phillip, John Ballard, and John Becker were appointed by Father Robert to serve on the Outreach Summit Committee. MOTION: After discussion, it was decided that any emergency that needs to be funded could be funded with Williams Rhodes funds along with vestry approval. Seconded. Motion carried. ACTION: none, unless needed according to the motion. Robert read a prayer from Prayers from the Senior Warden’s Report: Robin B. thanked everyone for pulling together the committee ministry mission and goals. She asked those who have not finished their reports to send them electronically. The vestry agreed to meet to discuss the mission, visions, and goals so that everyone can understand the organizational chart. Date of the meeting will be sent via email. Robin announced that there will be an ad hoc committee to revise the vestry by-laws. She hopes that the revisions will be completed by the end of the vestry term so that any new members will have the tools to move forward. Committee members: Amrey (chair), John Ballard, Tom, Father Robert, Robin B., and two or three former senior wardens. Rector’s Report: Robert explained that he gives members who want to give church memorials a choice of the types of memorials that are available; i.e., the Pascal candle and vestments. The May 6 Vestry Form will be how the vestry as a whole communicates with the parish. Action Item: The William Rhodes Committee disbursements were distributed to the vestry. MOTION: Phillip moved that the disbursements be approved as is. APPROVED.
Good of the Order: Tom hopes to have information about AGM committee soon. Naomi thanked everyone for their support during her illness. Katherine announced that she and her sons are going to Christian Formation at John Ballard said that John Becker said that the mirrors in the Common Room and the stalls in the bathroom have been removed for renovation. Bill announced that he and Polly will be out of town for various graduations. Robin B. shared thank yous for the vestry’s contribution to youth trip to Gillian will be going to a stewardship workshop. Robert announced that Jim Davis passed away. Gillian will give the devotional next month. The closing prayer was Compline.
