APPROVED VESTRY MINUTES CHRISTIAN CONNECTION MARCH 26, 2003 VESTRY PRESENT: Father Peter Courtney, Joe Napoli, David Kidd, Duncan Krause, Laura Cofer, David Gossett, Peg Wood, Jay Shinn, Bruce Morrow, Terri Tillman, Lee Gaby, Cindy McAlister, Debra Harden, Carol Winthrop. VESTRY ABSENT: Chris Saye and Larry McLeod. NON-VESTRY PRESENT: Trey Harden, Mother Mandy Brady and Dee Forester. PRAYER, PRAISE AND SONG Father Courtney welcomed everyone, opened with a prayer and then led the Vestry in song. He introduced Trey Harden who is working on his “God and Country” Boy Scout award. One of the requirements is to attend a Vestry meeting. DEVOTION Peg Wood opened the devotion by telling the Vestry that she acquired her spiritual courage from her grandmother. She read the 27th Chapter of Acts from a paper found among her grandmother’s possessions. Peg then read Prayers for Guidance. FINANCIAL REPORT Duncan Krause, on behalf of the Finance Committee, brought to the Vestry changes in the EEDS budget for a vote. The changes include a 5% raise for all teachers, minimum salary for 5-day, 4-day and 3-day classes, $500.00 bonus for teachers completing Child Development Associate Degrees and $500.00 addition for the Assistant Director. Father Courtney called for the question. The Vestry unanimously accepted the changes in the EEDS budget. The Finance Committee reviewed the February Income and Expense statement and found that expenses are in line for this time of year. Duncan announced that Phil Bettendorf is a new member of the Finance Committee. PARISH LIFE REPORT Debra Harden reported that it is time to plan for lemonade on the terrace. Duncan suggested pulling names from the newcomer list as this would be a great way for newcomers to meet the parish. The Senior Luncheon is being scheduled. The 100th Anniversary of the Consecration of Emmanuel Church coincides with the Bishop’s visit on May 25th. Frances Doherty will be working with Cathy Cofer on receptions. AGM REPORT Peg Wood brought to the Vestry, for their consideration and approval, suggested changes to the membership section of the operating procedures manual for AGM. 1) A member appointed annually by the Rector and approved by the Vestry to serve as Chair. 2) A member elected annually by the Vestry from its membership. 3) The remaining members shall be elected by the Vestry from members of the Parish to serve staggered terms fixed by the Vestry. 4) The term of each appointed or elected member shall be effective upon appointment or election but shall commence on the February 1 next following appointment or election (except that elections or appointments to fill vacancies shall be effective immediately and shall be for the unexpired remainder of the original term) and any appointed or elected member shall be eligible for appointment or election to one or more successive terms. 5) The current Senior Warden and the current chair of the Vestry Resources Commission shall serve as ex-officio voting members. Father Courtney called for the questions. The Vestry unanimously approved the changes. FACILITIES REPORT Jay Shinn reported that Jim Jacobson met with the Fire Chief who noticed a few missing Exit signs. These will have to be installed before the Fire Chief returns for an inspection. Rob Fisher has been contacted to look at the Pope Street side of Emmanuel’s property. The Finance Committee has approved the use of up to $2000 for continued planning of property use. The money will come from Line Item 900-071. With the motion before the Vestry, Father Courtney called for the question. This motion passed unanimously. COMMITTEE REPORTS Peg Wood reported that the Creche Group met, and they are planning to display creches December 12, 13 and 14, 2003. More information will be forthcoming. Father Courtney reported that the Parish Library is being evaluated and cataloged by Judith Bagarozzi, parishioner and Truitt McConnell Librarian. Laura Cofer reported that the Day School PTO has the funds to have the current playground equipment dismantled and hauled away. Father Courtney has met with Amy Wraga and contracts have been prepared for the Day School Staff. FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER. Father Courtney asked for prayers for the following: Lisa Yarn, surgery tomorrow; Rustin McAlister, for 3 breaks in his shoulder; Beth Saye, for the death of her aunt; and prayers for Mandy as she undergoes medical tests. Laura Cofer announced the 1st Annual Youth Golf Fundraiser, Sunday, April 27, 2003. Please enter and play. Duncan Krause asked about a church calendar that includes important upcoming dates in the life of the church. Melissa Fulcher keeps the master calendar, and Cindy McAlister suggested that those dates be highlighted in “The Tower” and on the website. Father Courtney announced pool contributions for Camp Mikell’s new pool are still welcome. The Annual Parish Meeting will be December 7, 2003. Lee Gaby needs team members for “Relay for Life” May 16th and 17th. Father Courtney announced that the new UGA Chaplain will be Dan Brown. Mother Mandy and Father Courtney attended Clericus and were reminded that it is time to elect Council Delegates. Please send names to Father Courtney or Cindy McAlister. Council will be November 9, 2003. Debra Harden thanked everyone for helping Trey with his Boy Scout project. APRIL DEVOTION David Gossett Peter led the Vestry in the Lord’s Prayer.
