FINANCIAL REPORT

Clay Gilbert reported that pre-paid pledges are higher than they have ever been before. Revenues are down slightly and expenses are in great shape. Excluding pre-paid pledges we are ahead of the budget for the year.

Bob Wood reported that Karen Holland can show a lower figure for the Line Item 530-050 Worker’s Compensation Insurance.

CREATION OF A COMMUNICATION COMMISSION

Bruce Morrow made the motion that the amendment to the bylaws proposed at the February Vestry meeting creating an 8th Commission , the Communication Commission be accepted as written. Terri Tillman seconded. Father Courtney called for the question. The motion was adopted unanimously.

RECOMMENDATION OF THE AGM COMMITTEE

Bruce Morrow moved to accept the recommendation of the AGM committee to designate the bell tower terrace as the Emmanuel Sesquicentennial Terrace. Father Courtney called for the question. This recommendation was unanimously adopted by the Vestry upon recommendation of the AGM committee.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Bruce Morrow asked Terri Tillman to speak to the actions of the Communication Commission to date. The Athens Banner Herald has been contacted and Emmanuel service schedules will appear regularly in the paper. The Commission is also working on a website. The Communications Commission shall oversee all ministries related to communication, including publications, the greeting of newcomers, and stewardship.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Bob Wood distributed Policies and Procedures Concerning Allegations and Incidents of Sexual Misconduct. He asked the vestry members to read over the material and sign the top sheet and return it to Melissa Fulcher. Youth workers and Day School staff have already been trained.

Bob Wood has distributed to Commission chairs a list of who is leading which ministries. He asked that Melissa be notified of any changes so that she can keep the list up to date.

Bob Wood reminded the Vestry that he sends a request to Commission chairs 10 days to 2 weeks prior to the Vestry meeting asking for their reports. He requested that these reports be sent to Melissa in order that they can be included in the Agenda packets.

Father Peter Courtney announced with joy the appointment of Amy Wraga as the new Day School Director.

Father Courtney announced that Sarah Fisher will be attending General Theological Seminary in New York next year. Interviewing has begun with applicants for her position. Father Courtney has asked Carol Winthrop and Jan Wheeler to help interview two candidates. He hopes to make the appointment within the next two weeks.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

Bruce Morrow shared that he is proud to be a part of this Vestry and this Parish. He feels that what the group is doing is of great importance.

Carol Winthrop shared two visits her daughter Meg had while she was ill. Sarah Fisher, Katherine McKinney and her two children brought the stuffed Jesus to stay with Meg until she got well. The Jesus will be disinfected and passed on to the next child in need of comfort. Mother Mandy came by to visit and bring Sacraments in the form of ice cream. Meg is on the road to recovery.

On a recent layover in San Francisco, Debra Harden joined a women’s retreat at Grace Church. She reported it was a wonderful experience and added that a unique way to keep the Parish up to date while a stained glass window is being repaired is to show the repair in various stages on plywood.

Joe Napoli enjoyed a day with his Rector recently when he took him on a delivery to North Carolina. Father Courtney is free on Fridays for road trips. Father Courtney declined Walter Jarrett’s invitation to help him deliver a baby.

DEVOTION FOR APRIL

Debra Harden volunteered.

Father Courtney closed by leading the Vestry in the Lord’s Prayer.

Respectfully submitted,

Dee Forester

Secretary to the Vestry
