REPORTS

Chris Saye and Bob Wood reported that the Outreach Building renovation is on target and below budget. The block wall is 90% finished. Plans prepared for the space have been modified by Community Connection to add an office. The permit process will take 45 to 60 days and an additional 30 days will be needed to complete the work. Chris Saye is donating his time to oversee the project.

Bob Wood reported that the first meeting of the Land Use Committee was a good one. Walter chaired the meeting. Jim Jacobson, Lisa Yarn, and Bob Wood were present. Walter conveyed the need for the cost of the projects to stay within budget. He was assured by all present that that was an attainable goal.

Father Courtney expressed his pleasure with the Day School staff. He reported that the Cleaning Service has transformed the second floor. Work is proceeding on a new children’s chapel and a Children’s Eucharist will be held once a month. Betsey Turner has designed vestments for the Children's Chapel Eucharist.

The Vestry sang to open the meeting.

STEWARDSHIP

Jan Wheeler reported that she has received all calling teams but one and it has been promised. She noted that it has taken longer than anticipated to receive the lists and hopes that the Vestry can do better with the upcoming time lines.

Jan passed a sign up sheet for Vestry members to choose a date to speak at the October 7th, 14th or 21st Sunday services. These will be three to five minute presentations from the heart regarding Stewardship. Father Courtney volunteered to help Vestry members with their speech.

Jan will hold a series of four 1 hour Stewardship meetings open to the whole Parish. These meetings will begin September 12th and the hope is that there will be a sharing of ideas and feelings about Stewardship

Jan went over the schedule for the 2001 Stewardship Campaign with the Vestry. (See Copy)

Jan passed out Pledge cards to Vestry members and asked that they be returned in a timely fashion after prayerful consideration. She noted that a big year is planned and everyone’s generosity is needed.

The Vestry discussed possible wording of a letter from the Vestry that will be sent with the pledge cards. Emmanuel needs $60,000 to $70,000 more in pledging dollars. Ideas were to ask each pledging unit for a 10% increase, report that the Vestry has hopefully increased their pledges, show a graph of how the money is spent. Jan will e-mail a draft of the letter to the Vestry and their input is desired.

MISSION STATEMENT

Vestry members broke into groups of three to work on the mission statement. The three group’s statements were read and discussed until the following mission statement evolved: Emmanuel Episcopal Church strives to honor God by nurturing the spirit and ministering to God’s people wherever they may be.

Peg Wood requested a review of where Emmanuel stands regarding the budget and deficits at the September Vestry meeting.

Father Courtney reported that the Executive Committee has recommended that the full time "Sexton" position be replaced by a half time "Maintenance 1" position. Paul Anderson made the motion to create a half time Maintenance 1 position. Jan Wheeler seconded. The vote was [[[ 8 ]]] in favor and 1 opposed.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
