Lay Ministry covers several different areas. At Emmanuel, we have Eucharistic Ministers, Eucharistic Visitors, and Lectors (Lay Readers).
Eucharistic Ministers are people who are licensed by the Bishop to assist the clergy on Sunday mornings during the worship service serving a chalice during communion and reading the prayers and lessons. These people are vested participants in the service.
Eucharistic Visitors are Eucharistic Ministers licensed by the Bishop who assist the clergy, following a worship service, by taking communion which was consecrated during the service, to homebound or ill parishioners.
Lectors (Lay Readers) are parishioners who are a representative participant of the congregation and who read appointed lessons during a worship service. The Lector does not need to be licensed by the Bishop. Youth are encouraged to participate as lectors from time to time. This person need not vest.
Proper training and regular church attendance is required for all Lay Ministries.
Anyone wishing to inquire about becoming a Eucharistic Minister, Eucharistic Visitor, or Lector can get in touch with the coordinator listed on the "Contacts" page through the link in the menu on the left of your screen.
