Sunday Worship at Emmanuel

There are two services on Sunday mornings:

8:30 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite I

10:30 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II

Both services follow the order of worship expressed in the Book of Common Prayer. There is limited music at the first service. The choir and organ are important parts of the second service. On the second Sunday of every month there is a short children's sermon at the second service, and the young children are invited to sit around the chancel steps and participate.

Special effort is taken to support children and their parents at the second service. You might be interested in three of the programs.

1. For infants & toddlers (birth-3 years):

Our fabulous nursery workers provide care & nurture to our youngest parishioners from 8:15 a.m. until the end of the 10:30 service. While there is no formal curriculum for this group, we have purchased new books and toys, including stories about Noah's Ark and the story of creation, to help these children begin to know the stories of our faith.

2. Catechesis of the Good Shepard (Ages 3 to 4)

This is an exciting new program at Emmanuel. A dedicated space for the program has been prepared in the Music Building. The catechesis meets from 9:30 am - 11:00 am. Read more about this program.

3. Children's Liturgy: (grades K - 4)

Kindergarden through 4th graders are invited to join leaders in the Parlor at the 10:30 a.m. service to hear an age-appropriate version of the Gospel. This year we will again use the Sunday Paper Jr., a comic strip-style interpretation of the lesson of the day. Singing, praying, and sharing stories are also part of the Children’s Liturgy experience. On the 2nd Sunday of the month, children will stay in church to hear the children’s sermon. More about procedure

On some occasions during the church year the choir offers a choral evensong or compline service in the evening. They are quite beautiful and moving. You are invited.
